How do I become a Christian?

All Bible verses should be read in context from the Bible wherever possible. Important verses have been selected to answer this question. There are several basic steps of faith involved in becoming a Christian. They are detailed below. We believe this is the most important decision you will ever make so we ask you to carefully consider your decision.

(1) ACCEPT THAT GOD MADE YOU
God planned the creation of man and woman. It was no accident.
Then God said "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
Genesis 1: 26

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139: v13

(2) ACCEPT THAT GOD LOVES YOU
Jesus said "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, (Jesus Christ) that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3: v16

Jesus said "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."Matthew 10: v29-31

Jesus said "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10b

(3) AGREE THAT YOU HAVE TRIED TO LIVE YOUR OWN WAY
Men and women by nature want to live their own way ignoring the guidance of God. The first Bible record of this was Adam and Eve in the "Garden of Eden" Genesis Chapter 3 God gave them the right to eat of all the fruit of the trees except one. Well you know what happened. We want to be fully independent. To live without Jesus Christ, without God. We become either apathetic (totally ignore God) or are hostile towards Him.

The bible says human beings "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened."
Romans 1: v21

The Bible says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3: v23

(4) ACCEPT THAT GOD IS A HOLY GOD
God is a righteous Holy God. The Bible tells us this in Leviticus 19: v 2
"Be holy, because I, the Lord your God, am holy."

Mankind is by his or her nature, sinful. As a result of this sinful nature there is a large separation between human beings and God. No matter how hard we may work at being perfect or good or righteous we cannot ever make God's standard. The Bible says
"All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are filthy rags."
Isaiah 64: v 6

(5) UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN
Sadly the inevitable consequence of sin is Separation. Now and in a permanent state in the life to come. If you fail to repent and turn back to God you will spend your future life, after death eternally separated from God. The Bible tells us:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6: v23

"Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6: v 9-10

(6) ACCEPT THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY SOLUTION FOR YOUR SINS
God acted in history to resolve this separation problem for mankind.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, (Jesus Christ) that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"
John 3: v16

Jesus said "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture." John 10: v 9

The Bible says about Jesus Christ "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."Acts 4: v12

WELL, WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
If you have read this far. That's great!. You've spared a few minutes of your time. Well, now it's decision time. You either accept the pathway (through Jesus Christ) that God offers you, or you continue living the way you are now, on a pathway to hell. It is your choice. Only YOU can make the decision. Your parents or your love ones can't make the decision for you.
If you do want to proceed further let's summarise the above information so its clear.
If not, thank you for your time and remember God is still prepared to accept you, while you still can make that decision. (ie. Once your dead its too late. Your chance to make a decision is over.)

In SUMMARY the Steps are.

Agree that God loves you and created you for fellowship with him
Accept that you have sinned (in thought, word or deed) and your relationship with God has been broken
Believe that there is only one solution to bring you back to God. ie Jesus Christ
Believe He died on the Cross to pay for your sin, rose again and now lives with God the Father
DECISION TIME
If you are serious you must now respond by asking Jesus Christ into your life as your Saviour and Lord. This involves a step of faith and repentance.
You do this by expressing your faith in prayer. A simple prayer like the following can be used. The prayer must be from your heart. God knows whether you are sincere or not.

PRAYER TO ACCEPT JESUS

Dear Lord Jesus
I realise that I have been living my own life, away from you. I've sinned against you in thought, word and deed. I'm very sorry about this. I ask your forgiveness. Please forgive me and cleanse my life.
Thank you for loving me and dying on a cross for my sin
I am now willing to receive Jesus Christ as my Saviour and the Lord of my life. With the help of the Holy Spirit I determine to live my life in accordance with your words in Holy Scripture. I determine to live as a follower of Christ, a Christian. Thank you Jesus that you will accept me no matter, what sins I've committed.

What has happened if I have prayed this prayer?
